About DAP
Downtown Arts Projects is a 501(c)3 nonprofit arts education organization
founded in 1993. DAP has been supported by a range of corporate,
private and public sponsors.
DAP works collaboratively with other arts organizations, agencies, independent curators and arts organizers. Each DAP event is the result of the contributions of a diverse team - made up of DAP staff and our fellow collaborators
Executive Director
Simon Watson is a curator, teacher and critic; he founded Downtown Arts Projects in 1993. Watson is currently on the faculty of School of Visual Arts; a board member of Swiss Institute-Contemporary Art; and serves on Advisory boards for the Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College and the Vera List Center for Art & Politics, The New School. In the 1980's Watson owned and operated a contemporary art gallery where he presented more than 300 exhibitions of emerging artists works. He is an art history graduate from Williams College.
Associate Director
Craig Hensala is a curator, administrator, designer, and theater producer. Hensala
served as the artistic director of the Downtown Arts Festival from 1999 through 2002 and has worked as a curator and project director of art and performance events with DAP for the past eight years.
